Edward Harry Beardmore

Edward Henry Beardmore, known as Harry, was born on September 5th 1869. He took over Pidduck and Beardmore from his father. They were ironmongers and manufacturers in Market Street, Burslem with a factory in Longport. Edward Harry was engaged to Pattie Dickenson, but she broke off their engagement to marry his brother Ernest. He once told his sister Agnes that he’d only ever loved two women and his brothers had married them. His other brother Frank had married Sissie Bennett.

Edward Harry lived in his parent’s home, Aspley House, 188 Waterloo Road. His sister May Marsden lived there too after her husband was killed in France in 1915.

After his mother died in 1923 Edward Harry built a house in Woodland Avenue, Wolstanton where he and May were looked after by loyal servant Emma Hollinshead. By then Emma had been with the family for 25 years.

Edward Harry died on October 19th 1932. He was buried at Burslem with his mother and father.

The 1933 Probate Calendar shows that he left £8221 7s. 7d. to his sister May.
